M'Sila is a central Algerian high-plateau wilaya, famous for the UNESCO Kalâa of Béni Hammad site — first Hammadid capital (1007), perched at 1,000 m altitude on djebel Maâdid, with its impressive ruins (mosque, palace, 25 m "Manar" minaret). The wilaya also hosts the great chott (salt lake) of El Hodna, vast flat expanse with lunar landscapes. It's a major sheep-farming land, infinite steppe plateaus, and historic homeland of the Hammadids — Berber dynasty that reigned over much of central Maghreb. For archaeology lovers and contrasted landscapes (mountains, plateaus, salt lake), M'Sila offers a rich, little-touristic wilaya.
